Job Summary

Reporting to the President of the Board, the Director is key to the success of Maynard House. They are responsible for implementing the organization’s vision by setting and achieving priorities and annual goals that serve to sustain Maynard House for decades to come. The Director is the operational leader of the organization with direct responsibility for community engagement and partnerships, fundraising and donor relations, financial accounting and reporting, Board relations, staff and volunteer recruitment, training and retention, and crisis management.


Primary Responsibilties

• Oversee marketing and engagement with the goal of creating stronger brand awareness; develop strategies that best support the organization’s vision and executes, tracks and evaluates the effectiveness of those activities

• Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, donors, town officials, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization; serve as spokesperson to a broad array of stakeholders

• Design, execute, and evaluate a fundraising plan that enables the organization to meet annual revenue goals including, but not limited to: identifying and cultivating new donors; continued cultivation of existing donors; developing, executing, and managing all follow-up of a grants program; and developing and implementing a robust donor stewardship strategy

• In collaboration with the Board, develop plans and systems that support the strategic direction of the organization; set goals, create, implement, and measure success of actions plans

• Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization that includes managing a small team and pool of volunteers

• Lead financial planning and prepares the annual operating budget; monitor monthly cash flow; provide the board with comprehensive reports on revenues and expenditures

• Actively support the Board in its governance role; inform the Board of internal and external issues that affect the organization; prepare meeting agendas and supporting materials; draft policies for Board approval as needed


• Bachelor’s Degree or higher required

• Five or more years of progressive experience in a fundraising or sales-related role; management experience in a non-profit setting highly preferred

• A creative thinker who has an action-oriented, entrepreneurial, and adaptable approach to work

• Excellence in organizational management with the ability to set and achieve strategic objectives; ability to prioritize well

• The highest personal integrity and a strong work ethic; maintains confidentiality at all times

• The ability to interact easily with people from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds and to effectively manage diverse stakeholders

• Strong written and verbal communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, financial management, email, and the internet
